Henkoji Temple Ruins

@Henkoji Temple was founded in May 3rd year of Keian (1651) by Isyu priest of Naegi Unrinji Temple for the 7th anniversary of the mother of the 3rd feudal lord. A chief retainer Hachibei Tanahashi also made an effort to rebuild the temple as a substitute for the once abandoned temple of Koeji Temple The Temple name "’•ŸŽR•ะ‰ชŽ›"@is the name of the temple divided into two letters in "•Ÿ‰ช" and Henkoji Temple was ranked first among the temples attached to Naegi Unrinji Temple.
@The openning of Henkoji Temple was due to Genho Syugaku priest , and since then , it prospered until the 10th Tairei priest. However Henkoji Temple was abandoned in the 3rd year of the Meiji era due to the abolition of Buddha by the Naegi clan , and from the 11th generation , it began to give the surname of Kataoka. Currently , the statue of Syugaku priest is being memorialized at the Kataoka family.
@Around the temple ruins , there are a Namuamidabutsu Tower , a Thirty Three Kannon Stone Statue , tombstones of successive abbots , etc. and the place where the Sankai Banrei Tower was built was the ruins of the temple gate at that time. Looking at the drawing , you can see that it was a majestic building.
@In addition , around the ruins of Henkoji Temple , there are still some moats and earthworks that remain the remnants of the medieval Koeji Castle Samurai Hall. Henkoji Temple was built in the Edo period when there was no need for earthworks or moats , and it is thought that Henkoji Temple was built on the site of a medieval samurai residence surrounded by moats in four directions. By the way , the name of the house adjacent to the earthworks in the photo is called "Lord's field ", and the name of the house on the other side is called "Lord's field below". Therefore , it is probable that there was a fairly large samurai residence there.
